Every End is a Beginning is the Scott Routenberg Trio's debut album and Routenberg's first release since 2006's award winning Jazztronicus. The album features Routenberg's original compositions alongside a heartfelt and energetic arrangement of Björk's Joga. The Trio, featuring bassist Nick Tucker and drummer Cassius Goens III, navigates intimate, dynamic and expansive sonic landscapes in this musical celebration of nature and life. The title track is a quote from American Transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson.
"Our life is an apprenticeship to the truth, that around every circle another can be drawn; that there is no end in nature, but every end is a beginning; that there is always another dawn risen on mid-noon, and under every deep a lower deep opens."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson, Circles (1841)
REVIEWS AND QUOTES:
"Rising-star pianist brings creativity and individuality to a crowded field...the harmonically sophisticated music is frequently cinematic...Routenberg's interplay with his sidemen reveals the influence of Bill Evans, while his ability to make the most out of a repetitious pattern (as in "Melt") hints at Keith Jarrett. Even so, Routenberg has found his own voice in the modern mainstream. The warmth that he displays on "Embrace" is particularly memorable."

"His sophisticated sense of harmony and rhythm is compelling - and the group executes the material superbly. Early candidate for 'jazz record of the year' in my book."

"Original postbop. B+"
-Tom Hull (former Village Voice jazz critic/Jazz Consumer Guide)
"This trio is on the money. Effortless and in command of the music. Routenberg's music offers a nice array of contemplitude, juxtaposed tonalities and rhythmic play."
-Karen Hildebrand, WRUV (Burlington, Vermont)
"Very adept trio playing, and writing that suits the personnel."
"...Embrace [is] just about perfect as a representation of ballad playing for piano trio."
"Björk's Joga is a wholly successful jazz appropriation of a modern pop tune."
-Jay Harvey (Jay Harvey Upstage, former Indianapolis Star critic)
