Studio One BSU Jazz Piano Studio The Jazz Studies program at Ball State University School of Music offers students a comprehensive curriculum and diverse performance opportunities. As Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano, Dr. Routenberg teaches applied jazz piano lessons, jazz composition lessons, jazz improvisation, jazz theory, jazz history, and jazz arranging; he also directs a jazz combo. "Pianist Routenberg is a poetic soul. His tone is like drops of liquid gold, with exquisite voicing and meticulous phrasing. Routenberg exhibited a formidable mastery of keyboard technique, but never produced a harsh or strident tone. The piano literally sang in his hands, and it was a joy to hear a clear, easily discernable melody with luscious legato. Routenberg is also an intellect whose delight in rhythmic puzzles teased the ear and brain."
